PERSGA Sub-Regional RIMS Training Workshop Opens in Djibouti

PERSGA is conducting a two-days sub-regional training workshop on the Regional Information Management System (RIMS) in the capital, Djibouti, taking place on 13–14 January, with the participation of national experts from Djibouti and Somalia. The workshop brings together 21 participants, including 6 experts from Somalia and 15 participants from Djibouti, representing relevant governmental and technical institutions.

The workshop was officially opened today, 14 January, by Mr. Dini Abdullah, Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Djibouti, and H.E. the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Djibouti, underscoring the importance of regional collaboration in marine and fisheries information management.

The training aims to introduce participants to RIMS and its main components, highlighting its role in enhancing the management, accessibility, and use of marine and fisheries data at both national and regional levels. The program also includes a briefing on PERSGA’s knowledge management approach, emphasizing its contribution to marine resource conservation, fisheries management, and the sustainable blue economy agenda.

This workshop is part of PERSGA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national and sub-regional capacities and to promote the effective and sustainable use of RIMS across its member countries.
